A New Spring for a Fair Economy March 21-June 21 2009

Spring 2009, instead of bringing sunshine and good times, is going to lead us « officially » into an economic recession. Of course, inequality and poverty have been for a long time a reality for millions of people. On the international level, if every year a hundred million people are dying of malnutrition, it is obvious that the free movement of goods and capital that we must accept is far from guaranteeing peace and prosperity for the people.
Rushing to the aid of banks with so many public funds, nations seem to be ready to continue as they did before. We do think, on the contrary, that it is urgent to call into question an economic model which impoverishes continually much of the population, contributing to the irreversible deterioration of our ecosystem and threatening our common future. And we have to begin now!
Even if we do not all have the same responsibilities in terms of our consuming, working, saving money and travelling, it is now that we have to make tomorrow's world. This is as much a matter of individual behaviour as of collective commitment.
For several years, many economic initiatives, taken by associations, companies and private individuals have been based on another way of thinking. These initiatives, which exist not just for the shareholders, create new ways of working and starting a business. They contribute to the quick development of an economy which is more united, respectful of biodiversity and of working conditions, and fairer, here as on the other side of the world. These approaches mean on a day to day basis that our economic activities can help create a project of collective life.
During this « New Spring for a Fair Economy », let's all share these efforts. Another economy is well on its way!
From March 21 to June 21 2009, the action group of « A New Spring for a Fair Economy » will organize a series of meetings and public debates all over France, to build together tomorrow's world.
